Crystal: Blue Calcite, Blue Onyx, Opalite
Incense: Lavender
Intuitively Drawn Tarot Card: Page of Pentacles from the Mystic Dreamer Tarot
Magickal Anointing Oil: Midnight Lavender
Spell Candle: Spirit of the Waters
Vials: Lavender, Mint, Rosemary
Other Items: Cast Iron Cauldron, Lavender Blossom Tea, Sea Mist Organic Soap

My Thoughts
Spirit of the Waters, the July MidnightMuses offering, is the first box in a series that will focus on path work and shadow work: Over the next few months, MidnightMuses will focus on a series of path-workings/shadow-work that can help teach elemental work, along with techniques such as astral travel, dream work and divination. This month we focus on the Element of Water as a catalyst for transformation and healing. When we work with water, shadow begins to stir itself.

The Cauldron Spirit Book of Shadows page features a recipe, with all of the ingredients for the ritual included in the box. My tarot card for July is the Page of Pentacles – I will happily take it!

Several staple items are again included this month: a spell candle, crystals, incense, magickal anointing oil, and spell vials.

Spirit of the Waters, July’s hand-rolled beeswax spell candle, is a lovely hydrangea blue and includes a spell scroll. The blue calcite, blue onyx, and opalite match the candle perfectly to create a mystical blue landscape of stone and wax on my altar.

The lavender cone incense bundle includes a small silver metal incense holder for use in the cauldron that is featured this month. Vials of lavender, Mint, and Rosemary are also included for the Cauldron Spirit ritual.

Rounding out the staples, Midnight Lavender magickal anointing oil is blended with fennel, lavender, and rosemary essential oils. This lovely mixture has a gentle earthly lavender aroma.

The final three items included this month are a handmade soap, tea, and cast iron cauldron.

Blended with hyacinth, jasmine, and rose essential oils in a base of coconut, corn, olive, soybean, and sunflower oils, Sea Mist Organic Soap is a galaxy of shimmering scents. This beautiful soap also contains organic shea butter and water. The bag the soap is packaged in has a little seashell on one of the ribbons. I love this attention to detail!

While I am usually ecstatic to receive tea, I am not sure how I feel about the Lavender Blossom infusion. The listed ingredients are: hibiscus petals, orange peel, lemon balm, cloves, lavender, licorice root, and stevia. Two things I dislike in my tea are hibiscus and lavender, but I do enjoy orange peel and cloves so I will do a tasting at a later date. A small thing worth noting is that the label on the back of the tea pouch is for Hibiscus Zest tea. Not a big deal, I just happened to notice it.

I’ve saved the best for last – a small cast iron cauldron. What a nice surprise for a July box! There is not much I can say other than: heck ya cast iron cauldron! It is well-made and perfectly sized for a smaller altar, which is my current setup.

MidnightMuses continues to surprise me and I am happy with the variety of items I’ve received in each of the last two boxes. I raise a cup of tea to the August bundle and look forward to reviewing it next month!

MidnightMuses is a monthly subscription containing items that focus on “a romantic potpourri of magickal darkness & light”. The current US price is $29 a month, with a $6 shipping charge.

MidnightMuses June 2019 – Illumination and Protection

Artwork: Book of Shadows Art Print for the Solstice Ritual
Crystal: Tumbled Golden Aura (contained in the Spell Bag)
Incense: Citrus
Intuitively Drawn Tarot Card: Ten of Grails from The Tarot of Vampyres
Magickal Anointing Oil: Solstice
Spell Candle: Solstice
Vials: Black Salt, Casting Salts, Flower Blend
Other Items: Cranberry Orange Organic Tea, Protection Pendant, Protection Spell Scroll, Raven Statue, Spell Bag

My Thoughts
The June 2019 MidnightMuses box is the second in the subscription series and was my first experience with a SugarMuses subscription. Initial impression? I love it! The juxtaposition of yellow and black, light and dark, is pure eye candy.

A book of shadows art print for use in the solstice ritual, among other things, is featured for June and the Ten of Grails is my tarot card: “Lasting happiness. Tranquility, peace of mind”. Yes please, to all of these! The artwork on the tarot card is exquisite.

Several witchy staple items are included for June: citrus incense, solstice magickal anointing oil, a solstice spell candle, and black salt, casting salts, and flower blend vials.

Surprisingly, to me, the citrus incense has a pleasant sunny citrus aroma and is not too strong. Pairing nicely with the incense, the solstice magickal anointing oil has been crafted with almond oil, lemon, and orange essential oils, with orange peel inclusions. This blend has an especially delightful citrus aroma, with a subtle undertone of spiciness similar to clove.

Made from hand-rolled beeswax, the spell candle is bright yellow and wrapped with a summer solstice poem. The candle is lightly dressed with golden glitter and smells wonderfully waxy.

Black salt, casting salts, and flower blend vials are included for use in the solstice ritual. Hopefully these vials will become a standard feature each month because the size is perfect and they can be refilled and reused.

But wait, there’s more… It seems this box keeps giving!

Tea is my beverage of choice so I am happy to receive the cranberry orange organic blend. Everything tastes lemony to me at the moment due to cancer treatments so I will review the tea at a later date (thought I might make a small cup beforehand).

The protection pendant and protection spell scroll are welcome additions to my collection. The pendant is quite heavy and is well-made, with an inscription on the back: “PROTECTION Defense against Harm”. The box it was tucked into is also lovely, with delicate moss fronds used as packing material.

My favorite item for June is the small raven statue. I have the larger version, which I purchased from SugarMuses last year, and I absolutely adore both of them. The spell bag is also a favorite. It is so charming that I am hesitant to open the sachet, though I am tempted to make a nest out of it for the small raven statue.

I am not sure which items will be standard each month, if any, but I plan on keeping my subscription active and I am extremely excited to see how this box evolves.
